Cycling in Carinthia
Whether on the lakeside paths, on cycling tours along the Drau Cycle Path, or on mountain roads with lake views: everyone decides for themselves how far and how steep the journey goes. Spittal an der Drau is located directly on two of Europe’s most significant cycle paths, offering perfect conditions for both adventure seekers and leisure cyclists.
Cycling Rest Areas
At the gateways to Spittal, in “Windschurn” and near “Mauthbrücke”, you will find our two newly adapted cycling rest areas. They invite you to linger in untouched nature and immerse yourself in the breathtaking panorama of the Drau River. At a third rest area, next to the “Buschenschank Egger” in St. Peter, you can also enjoy a wide variety of exquisite local products. In addition to comfortable seating, there is a bike service station on-site for making quick repairs. An information board provides the most important details about Spittal for your orientation.
Drau Cycle Path
The Drau Cycle Path leads through natural areas of international significance and was the first e-bike route in Europe to be certified with 5 stars. It connects warm Alpine swimming lakes with rugged mountain formations and vibrant towns with dreamy villages. Tranquil spots by the water, waterfalls, and sparkling swimming lakes invite you to take a rest time and again.
Millstätter Lake Cycle Path
The Millstätter Lake Cycle Path covers 28 km around the lake, combining nature, culture, and architecture with scenic spots right by the water. The route along the lively northern shore and the pristine southern shore is classified as easy to moderate. The riding time is approximately 3 hours, with a total elevation gain of 255 meters.

Bicycle Ferry
Tired cyclists can hop on the bicycle ferry, which operates regularly between the north and south shores. The ferry connects towns such as Millstatt, Seeboden, and Döbriach, offering a comfortable shortcut across the lake.
